Mariah Carey disclosed on Monday that over the weekend, her sister Alison Carey and mother Patricia both passed away on the same day.
"I lost my mother this past weekend, and I'm devastated. My sister tragically passed away on the same day, the singer stated in a statement, according to PEOPLE. 
Carey said, "I consider myself fortunate to have had the final week with my mother before she died away. "During this impossible time, I appreciate everyone's love, support, and respect for my privacy."
No more details, such as Patricia and Alison's causes of death, have been made public as of yet.
According to PEOPLE, Mariah Carey writes, "Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities" in her 2020 memoir, "The Meaning of Mariah Carey." It's always been a rainbow of feelings rather than just black and white.
Mariah went on in the book, "Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment." "My heart is connected to my mother's through a complex love."
The Grammy winner gave Patricia a special place in her biography.
She added, "And to Pat, my mother, who I do think really did the best she could through it all." "I will always love you to the best of my ability."
After Carey said that Alison's elder sister had abused her while they were kids, Alison filed a lawsuit against the singer over the book.
"My sister drugged me with Valium when I was 12 years old, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine, burned me in the third degree, and tried to sell me out to a pimp," the woman said in her memoir.
Alison claimed that the accusations caused her mental pain and that she was seeking $1.25 million.

In addition, Alison charged Mimi with making untrue statements even though she was aware that her sibling had trauma from the alleged maltreatment by their mother when they were younger. When Alison filed a lawsuit against their mother for sexual assault in 2020, she claimed that Patricia had exposed her to satanic rituals and sexual behavior at an early age.
In her biography, Mariah stated that she felt "emotionally and physically safer not to have any contact" with either her brother Morgan or Alison.
