Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints RB, was sentenced to a three-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy after entering a no contest plea to the charges related to a fight in Las Vegas, the league announced on Friday.
At the Saints' media availability on Friday, Kamara, 28, said he accepts responsibility for his part in the incident in February 2022 in which a person claimed they were assaulted in a nightclub.
At the team's facilities in Metairie, Louisiana, Kamara told reporters, "Poor judgment on my end, absolutely a stupid decision, but I'm a man. "I can accept responsibility for anything I've ever done in my life and have stood by it. When I'm wrong, I can admit it, and this time, I was entirely mistaken. embarrassed the Saints, my mother, my family, my city, and the shield, definitely embarrassed the NFL, and embarrassed myself.
Christopher Lammons, a cornerback for the Indianapolis Colts, was one of the four men that were detained by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police in February 2022 along with Kamara. They had already been charged this year. For his involvement in the incident, Lammons has also been given a three-game suspension.
Online court records show that Kamara pleaded "no contest" to a misdemeanor breach of peace charge in July and accepted a $500 fine, payment of the victim's medical costs, and 30 hours of community service in exchange.
David Chesnoff, Kamara's lawyer, verified the sentence's specifics but made no additional comments.
The Clark County District Attorney's Office has been contacted by CNN on the case.
When asked about his meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in New York the day before, Kamara told reporters on Friday that it went well.
He said that for the past 17 months, the incident and legal issues have negatively impacted his mental health, financial situation, and friendships.
I'm not minimizing or glossing over the circumstances, he insisted. "I certainly made a mistake in judgment, and it was unfortunate. I simply need to be responsible, mature, and capable of making wiser judgments.
The team's Week 4 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will include Kamara as a returnee.
He was selected by the Saints in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee, and he is now in his sixth season in the league.
In 15 games played last season, Kamara, who was selected for his sixth Pro Bowl in his career, ran for 897 yards and two touchdowns.
