Michelle Obama’s brother, Craig Robinson, says the former first lady has no intention of ever seeking the presidency — despite persistent calls from some Democrats who hope to see her return to the White House in her own right.
Robinson made the remarks during an interview at Los Angeles International Airport on October 13, where he was asked directly about Michelle’s political future. His answer was unequivocal.
“There’s no way she’ll do it,” he said, adding that he simply cannot picture his sister pursuing a presidential bid. Robinson argued that after serving her time in the White House, Michelle is focused on her own life and believes it’s important for younger leaders to step forward. “I think if you’ve been there for your time, it’s time for younger folks to get in there to give them a chance.”
Although Michelle, now 62, would still be younger than both Donald Trump and Joe Biden were when they entered office, Robinson emphasized that age isn’t the issue — it’s her desire to stay out of electoral politics. Still, he acknowledged that she would have excelled as president. “I’m biased,” he admitted, “but I am glad she’s taking some time for herself.”
Michelle has repeatedly dismissed speculation about a presidential run. In a 2025 appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, she said the country “ain’t ready” for a woman president, pointing to the failed campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris. “Don’t even look at me about running,” she said. “You’re not ready for a woman. You are not.”
Instead of politics, Michelle has focused on media, writing, and public engagement. She and Craig co‑host the podcast IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, launched in March 2025. The show features candid conversations about life, culture, and politics, along with interviews from guests such as Issa Rae and Megan Thee Stallion. Robinson said working with his sister has been a joy: “Everybody we’ve asked has been kind enough to say ‘yes,’ and we appreciate that.”
While Michelle Obama remains a prominent public figure, her brother’s comments reinforce what she has said for years — she has no plans to run for president, and she’s content shaping conversations from outside the political arena.
