Dana Tran is offering a rare, intimate look at life with her daughter Love as the little girl celebrates her 4th birthday. Tran, 32, described Love as an “old soul,” sharing that everyone—from siblings to teachers—sees a maturity and empathy far beyond her age. “She acts like an old lady in a little 3‑year‑old body,” she told Us Weekly, adding that Love’s natural humor and magnetic personality draw people in.
A Bond Built in the Kitchen
Tran says cooking is the heart of their relationship. Love has been cracking eggs since she was one, flipping steak with tongs, and eating complex Vietnamese dishes instead of typical toddler meals. Tran intentionally raised her daughter with an “advanced” culinary understanding, tying it to her heritage and their shared daily rituals.

The Story Behind the Name “Love”
Love’s name wasn’t chosen until after birth. Tran revealed that she and Diddy had a completely different name throughout her pregnancy. But once they saw her face, the original choice didn’t fit. After praying and meditating, they landed on Love—a name the child proudly embraces.
A Deep Connection to the Ocean
Tran nearly named her daughter “Ocean,” reflecting how much time she spent swimming during pregnancy. Love’s comfort in open water inspired their recent trip to Mexico, where she celebrated her birthday by swimming with fish—something she’s been asking to do repeatedly since her first experience in July.
Navigating Motherhood Through Turbulence
Tran says motherhood has reshaped her, making her both stronger and softer. She and Diddy welcomed Love in October 2022, less than two years before his arrest on charges including racketeering and sex trafficking. Despite his incarceration, Tran says Love knows her father and recognizes his music, though communication is limited.
Tran and Diddy previously aligned on parenting decisions, and she still considers his opinions when raising their daughter. Their relationship remains “amicable,” with Love as the priority.

Preparing for the Future
Tran acknowledges that Love will eventually encounter headlines about her family. Her goal is to raise a confident, independent child who understands her identity and feels no shame about circumstances beyond her control.
Support System and Difficult Decisions
As a single mother, Tran leans heavily on her parents and close circle. When deciding whether Love should visit her father in prison, she sought advice from adults who grew up with incarcerated parents. Hearing that visits helped rather than harmed them shifted her perspective.
Diddy’s older children also play a major role, staying closely involved and protective of their youngest sibling.
Building a Strong Foundation
Tran emphasizes discipline, education, and curiosity in her household. With a background from Georgetown University and UC Irvine, she wants Love to grow into a thoughtful, scholarly adult who values learning and self-improvement.
Love is already exploring ballet, soccer, and gymnastics, with Tran excited to help her discover what she can master.
A Rare Glimpse
Tran rarely speaks publicly, but she felt compelled to share a bit of their world because Love is “an extraordinary little girl.” For now, she’s focused on nurturing her daughter’s spark, celebrating her childhood, and shaping the foundation for the woman she hopes Love will become.
