The 2026 Bayou Classic returns to New Orleans as one of the city’s most powerful cultural traditions — a full weekend where Southern University and Grambling State University bring their rivalry, pride, and legacy to the national stage. This year marks the 53rd Bayou Classic, continuing a tradition that began in 1974 and has grown into the largest HBCU football event in the country.

The Weekend Starts With Culture: Greek Show & Battle of the Bands – November 27
On Friday, November 27, 2026, the city comes alive with two of the most anticipated events of the entire weekend:

The Greek Show – A high‑energy showcase of Divine Nine fraternities and sororities, blending step, stroll, dance, and performance art. It’s a celebration of Black Greek excellence and a cornerstone of Bayou Classic culture.

The Battle of the Bands – The legendary showdown between Southern’s Human Jukebox and Grambling’s World Famed Tiger Marching Band. Thousands pack the arena to witness unmatched musicianship, dance teams, drumlines, and the kind of showmanship only HBCU bands can deliver.

The Bayou Classic began in 1974, and over five decades later, it remains the most recognized HBCU rivalry in America. Southern and Grambling meet on the field at the Caesars Superdome, carrying the weight of history, alumni pride, and generations of culture.

The 2026 matchup — the 53rd edition — continues the legacy of Eddie Robinson, the Human Jukebox, the World Famed Band, and the countless players who turned this game into a national spectacle broadcast coast to coast.

More Than a Game — It’s a New Orleans Tradition
From second‑lines to alumni reunions, from Canal Street crowds to the Superdome lights, Bayou Classic weekend transforms New Orleans into a celebration of HBCU heritage, Louisiana culture, and Black excellence.
